Recorded on location in the Ross Sea, Antarctica, during January 2010, Sea Ice: Voices from a Frozen Ocean is a series of five soundtracks by Chris Watson that reveal the sonic transformation of antarctic sea ice from solid to fluid during the Austral summer season.

An installation of Sea Ice: Voices from a Frozen Ocean premiered at La Casa Encendida's ARTe SONoro in 2010, the first sound art exhibition ever held in Madrid.

Chris Watson is a sound recordist specialising in natural history, with a particular and passionate interest in recording the wildlife sounds of animals, habitats and atmospheres from around the world. Renowned for his award-winning wildlife sound recording work with David Attenborough on productions such as The Life of Birds and The Life of Mammals, Watson was also a founding member of pioneering electric groups Cabaret Voltaire and the Halfer Trio, and has since released several solo and collaborative experimental music projects on Touch.
