Artist-in-residence

Gaia Di Lorenzo
Artist-in-residence
October – November 2021

Gaia Di Lorenzo spent 6 weeks at FormaHQ as artist-in-residence where she developed a series of events.

I am interested in the influence social environments and cultural milieus have on individuals. I interrogate their role in self-identification processes and return constantly to the relationship between image making and subjectivity—a connection that is soft, unstable, and sometimes parodied in my work. My subjects are gathered in equal measure from social network imagery, antiques and peers’ artworks. My work does not exist in isolation, but rather as objects of exchange and interaction. This is reflected in my project CASTRO.

Artist Biography

Gaia Di Lorenzo lives and works in Rome. She works autonomously and in collaboration with others, and her practice incorporates installation, sculpture, and painting. Gaia received BFA from Goldsmiths University and her BA in Literature and Philosophy from Tor Vergata University. In 2018 she founded CASTRO, a free alternative learning program for artists in Rome. Recent projects include Temmatemenetè, Una Boccata d’Arte by Fondazione Elpis, in collaboration with Galleria Continua, We contain each other (Breve storia di una spugna), at ADA, Rome and Sitting Amongst, with Pietro Librizzi, at Jupiter Woods, London.
