Lynette Wallworth - Evolution of Fearlessness

To celebrate its 60th anniversary of internationally renowned Opera and Performing Arts, Aix–en–Provence Festival welcomes back its tradition of high profile visual arts programming with a solo exhibition by Lynette Wallworth. Her French debut, the exhibition features three works – Hold: Vessel 1 and 2, Evolution of Fearlessness and Invisible by Night. Installed in the impressive Théâtre de l'Archevêché, the exhibition forms the centrepiece of the festival.

Wallworth presents her work alongside opera productions from acclaimed American director Peter Sellars and Iranian film director and artist Abbas Kiarostami, productions by European composers Pascal Dusapin and Claudio Monteverdi, and performances from Palestinian Moneim Adwan and Moroccan singer Françoise Atlan.

Forming part of the 2008 European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, this year's programme specifically explores the intercultural meetings, comparisons and exchanges that are increasingly present within our lives, shifting borders and changing reference points – an appropriate context for Wallworth's installations, which actively encourage us to reflect upon the meanings, responsibilities and relationships that accompany our existence within this wide, complex world.
