Ryoji Ikeda - dataphonics [concert version]

dataphonics is a music project focused on the relationship between the sound of data and data of sound. It crosses various formats: multi–channel sound performance, radio programmes and audio/data research. A version of the project will be broadcast monthly on Radio France over twelve months during 2006–2007.

dataphonics [concert version], part of Ikeda’s datamatics project, is performed as a multi-channel concert for a blacked-out space. Using precise audio technologies, Ikeda creates a unique sound field that presents listeners with both a highly physical experience of space and time and explores the thresholds of the audience’s perception of the huge numbers of data codes used in the sound composition.

The structure of the whole datamatics project is:
1: datamatics: audiovisual concerts (C4I, datamatics)
2: data.series: installation series (data.spectra, new works)
3: dataphonics: music project (radio program version, multi-channel concert version)
(4: CD / DVD / publication: dataplex CD etc)
